windows 7 not working with graphics card?

I have a bfg geforce 8400 graphics card and it is not working with windows 7. I just build a pc and i first installed vista becuase i had the disk(waiting for windows 7 disk) i upgrade from vista to 7 and im going thorugh the setup and everything and the computer restarts i see the bios then nothing, no picture but hear sounds, i type in the password and can hear the login noise. So i took out the graphics card and used the onboard graphics and i can see the login screen and desktop. anyone have any ideas as to why i have no picture when windows 7 loads, or know any fixes?

Installing old game, setup insisting on installing DirectX 7.0…what to do and would that be a problem?

I just both Disney’s “Mickey Saves A Day” game on the discount in the local store…game is from 2006 (I think) but seller assured me it will work on my comp…my little niece coming over few days from now and I wanted to surprise her…she just adore Mickey Mouse.
Anyway, when I tried to install the game, setup informed me that DirectX 7.0 is needed for the game and it will be installed with. Since there is no option to avoid this (even in advanced install), I cut the installation afraid it will install old DX over my DX 9.04c…
Looking into help file provided, here what I found:
“Disney’s Mickey Saves The Day uses Microsoft’s DirectX 7.0 technology, which provides components and drivers to enhance every aspect of high performance applications. If DirectX is either not installed on your system or if the version of DirectX currently installed is not Version 7.0, Disney’s Mickey Saves The Day will install DirectX 7.0 during the program setup. Please note that DirectX 7.0 cannot be installed properly if the Sound Recorder and Volume Controller Windows components are not installed.

By the way, I’m using WinXP.
Is there any way to avoid installing DX 7.0, but still install the game, and if no, will installing whole bunch hurt my new DX and comp settings?

Using a Sound Blaster SE Sound Card – Microphone is no longer working?

My sound card and my headset/with mic was working great and then windows 7 closed everything to install an update. It restarted and my mic was no longer working. I tested my mic using Battlefield 2 mic setup and it worked great but It wouldn’t work for Steam or Ventrilo. Any info on how to fix this will be much appreciated.

How do I solve the boot problems of my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC?

For weeks, with increasing frequency, my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC has had boot problems that manifest themselves through the following steps:

1. Power on. The PC sounds start (I guess both disk and CPU are starting up), but no signal is sent to the display, and the sounds do not develop as usual, and nothing happens. I reset.

2. Power on again. Signal to display on. BIOS asks me if I want to change the setup as “system failed to boot several times before”. But I don’t know what the problem is, so I don’t know what I should change. I wait the 10 secs, and boot continues. The Windows screen appears, but after about 10 min. still does not go away. Windows does not start. I reset again.

3. Power on the third time. This time, BIOS asks if I want to launch startup repair (which it recommends), or just launch Windows. I can launch Windows after this, and am not noticed of what the error was (there’s nothing in the action center), but the boot problem might very well reoccur on the next restart, or the one after that. I have tried the startup repair, with no result. I have also tried a full memory diagnostic, with no result. I do not have a system image, so that option is not viable. Should I install drivers etc. to use the first checkbox option?

I _guess_ it’s a hardware problem, because of step 1, which seems to happen even before BIOS gets to identifying the OS installed.

And if the memory diagnostic ought to work, it can’t be a RAM problem.

Could the lack of display signal indicate that it’s a GFX hardware problem, and that step 2 and 3 are merely the result of resetting while that problem occurs?

I update all software and drivers regularly, using Windows Update.
I do not remember having installed anything special in the days or weeks before the first boot problem.
I have taken a recent backup on an external HDD, so if an HDD format/Windows reinstall will solve the problem, that is possible. (I don’t want to do this if a hardware problem persists anyway.)
I have very little technical expertise and experience, so I’d (of course) be glad if I won’t have to do error-checking by removing one of the RAID1 HDDs, replacing the GFX card or something.

To Tom T: I’m quite sure there’s no recovery partition. If it’s a RAID setup problem, why hasn’t it occurred earlier? The PC ran without this issue for about a year and a half with RAID1. Is there any software that can analyze the RAID setup / the RAID controller / etc. for errors, or is all information about this in the BIOS?

To Gregory: I should’ve been notified through Windows Update (I think) if an update was available.

To Donald: Maybe. I will now try to install the three drivers listed for my motherboard (http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=G31DE&o=Win764) even though they’re probably the current drivers anyway.
To Donald: I didn’t install the drivers anyway. They’re all older than 2010.
To k632dnowman: What settings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkdisk) do you recommend? I don’t remember if I’ve run CHKDSK on this PC before. Should I try just /p, i.e., just to check for errors? Does /f (or /r) take long time even if there is nothing found to fix?

All of my family photos and videos over the last eight years are digital. I have three portable hard drives where I keep copies, but that means crap if they all fail, the house burns down, etc. Are there any sites I can go to and upload all of my stuff.
