Linda asks…
Does this look like a good gaming pc setup?
I have never built a pc from the ground up before and I would just like some input as I’m trying to make this a good gaming pc. Does it look like this setup would work without any problems as far as compatability? Also any suggestions on what I could do to make it better within the same price range are appreciated.

All of this running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Tech Dude answers:
It seems great. However that video card does not even come close to performance with everything else. Why would you choose a 9800 GTX? I mean, you have a nice i7 920, great RAM, and the whole nine-yards, yet you have an old 9800
I would really up that thing up. Here are some choices. GTX 275, 280, 285, 295 (if budget allows), 4870 (ATI), 4870×2 (ATI), 5850 (ATI), 5870 (ATI) (if budget allows)
I mean, the 9800 is a good card, but just wont get much done for the newer games coming out.

dell optiplex gx520 sound card problems?
i have a dell optiplex gx520 and i cant install the sound card drives.
the pc was win xp i upgraded to win 7 and everything worked fine but i had to reinstall windows 7 the other night and then when i got it all setup i went on to utube and there was no sound i clicked on the volume control and it says no audio output device installed please help

Tech Dude answers:
You got to reinstall the sound card driver. When you install Windows 7, the sound driver was not installed with it, so you have to install it separately. You can go to Dell’s website and download a compatible sound driver.

Daniel asks…
What gaming pc system setup do i need?
Hi. I am looking to buy a pc for uni this sept. My main usage will be word processing, itunes, dvds, and gaming (no online gaming though). Gaming will generally be titles such as the latest total war game and some single player rpg’s, maybe the odd shooter although i have got a ps3.
i am looking atmo at a Dell inspiron 560 specs:
PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ 2 Quad-Core Q8300 Processor (2.50GHz, 4MB cache, 1333MHz FSB)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit – English
MEMORY 6144MB Dual Channel DDR3 [2x2048 + 2x1024] Memory
HARD DRIVE 1TB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
GRAPHICS CARD ATI Radeon™ HD 5450 1GB DDR3 graphics
OPTICAL DRIVE DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD) with DVD Burn software edit
KEYBOARD Dell™ USB Entry Keyboard – UK/Irish (QWERTY)
SOUND SOFTWARE Integrated 7.1 channel audio edit
PRICE: £519
Now my budget for the tower is really anything upto £700. Would i need, say an i5 650/750 processor or even an i7 860 or would that be overkill for my needs comparative to the added cost? is this graphics card good enough?
Any help would be much appreciated as i am not too knowledgable about these things.

Hi mark
avoid dell …. They are not as good as you may think…. Unless you buy a high end xps rig … You should look elsewhere and one excellent manufacturer is “cyberpower” who make high end systems and low end prices
for example the “cyberpower Infinity i3 Apollo”( http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/infinity_i3_apollo/) has some awesome specifications and also comes with a 22″ (21.6″ Viewable) WIDE 5MS TFT Active Matrix LCD Display Monitor
its base specifications include a Intel® Core™ i3 530 clocked at 2.93GHZ with a MSI H55M-E33 Intel H55 mobo and 4GB (2x2GB) of PC10666 DDR3/1333mhz Dual Channel Memory
storage and burning comes in the shape of a 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache HDD and a Sony Optiarc 22X DVD±R/±RW
and your graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 5750 PCI-E 16X 1GB… Which is more than capable of running any of todays games
theres loads of other specs and features including HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO and a ONBOARD 10/100 NETWORK CARD …. However for only £709 in VAT this is a amazing bargain… And to include a 22″ monitor makes this represent excellent value
other cyberpower systems you may want to consider are the :
1. Ultra Athena GT( http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Ultra_Athena_GT/ ) … Uses the latest 6 core phenom cpu which is liquid cooled using the “Asetek Liquid CPU Cooling System ” …
2. Mega Sales IV ( http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/mega_sales_IV/ ) awesome core i7 pc which also has a 3way sli motherboard and 6GB (3x2GB) PC10666 DDR3/1333mhz Triple Channel Memory… Theres a single ATI Radeon HD 5670 PCI-E x16 512MB Video Card however you can add another one or two of these to optimize your gaming experience … With the core i7 and 6gb of ram this is one system seriously worth checking out
another good brand of pc,s are “palicomp” … And my choice of systems from them has to be the “CORE I3 BLAST 540OC-22″( http://www.palicomp.co.uk/pc-systems/core-i3-i5-blast/core-i3-blast-540oc-22/prod_240.html ) which comes with the following specifications :
Processor (CPU): INTEL Core I3 540 SKT1156
STANDARD 3.06Ghz Per Core = 6.12Ghz Total Power
OVERCLOCKED To 3.5Ghz Per Core = 7Ghz Total Power
2 x Phyiscal Cores In CPU With Hyperthreading = 4 Logical Cores
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P55-US3L With Intel P55 Chipset
2xPCI-E (16x&4x), 4xPCI & 16GB RAM Support
Memory: CRUCIAL BALLISTIX 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
Premium Performance Branded Ram
Hard Drive: WESTERN DIGITAL 1TB SATA2, 7200 RPM & 32MB Cache
Optical Drive: SONY 24XDVD+/-RW Lightscribe & Dual Layer
Graphics Card: XFX ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB
Direct X11 & Pixel Shader 5 With VGA, DVI & HDMI Outputs
Standard Engine Clock @ 875Mhz & Memory Clock @ 1300Mhz
OVERCLOCK OPTION FOR GRAPHICS BELOW FREE OF CHARGE
Case: CoolerMaster Scout Gaming Case With 750W PSU
Connections: 14 x USB2.0, 1 x GIGABIT LAN, 7.1 HD Audio & 1 x PS/2
1 x Parallel & 1 x Serial Port, 1 x SP-DIF Out
it even comes with a BENQ 22” Widescreen TFT and is pre-loaded with MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 PREMIUM 64BIT … However if you allready have a windows os with a key you can reduce the cost of the system by £50 …..!
All of these are excellent systems and all come with monitors… So check em out….personally i like the Mega Sales IV from cyberpower…. With the core i7 and 6gb of ram this is the business !
I hope this helps, any problems let me know
good luck mark and good luck at university !

Just formatted to windows 7. All my games/applications are on drive D. First game i played was team fortress 2 so i went to drive d and re-made the shortcut to hl2.exe.
Shortcut is : “D:GamesTeam Fortress 2Team Fortress 2hl2.exe” -steam -game tf -console -novid
When crash happens, sound stutters for half a second and the game closes stating that “hl2.exe has stopped working”
My system can play all games on maxed out settings 1280×1024 on XP with decent framerates. Now i play most of my games medium to high with a bit of lag.

If you can’t find the right sound drivers manually, try this site:
http://www.drivers-updates.net/drivers/sound-card-drivers-download.html
There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it.
You can also search by the following link:
